Pool Shell Concrete Estimator

Building a concrete swimming pool requires precise material estimation. Whether using poured concrete, shotcrete, or gunite, accurately determining the shell volume is critical to ensure a seamless monolithic pour and to control budget overruns.

How It Works

Our calculator uses the interior dimensions to compute the volume of the walls and the floor. It handles the mathematical complexity of the sloped floor (using the Pythagorean theorem to find the true diagonal length) and averages the depth of the walls to provide a highly accurate total structural volume.

Understanding Pool Concrete Requirements

Wall Volume

The system calculates the perimeter based on the length and width, then multiplies it by the average depth (halfway between the shallow and deep ends) and the specified wall thickness.

Floor Volume

Because pool floors are sloped, the actual length of the floor is longer than the horizontal length of the pool. The calculator adjusts for this slope to ensure enough material is ordered.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Contractor's Tip: Shotcrete Rebound

When applying shotcrete or gunite, a significant amount of material "rebounds" off the reinforcing steel and walls. It's an industry standard to order 10% to 15% extra material strictly to account for this rebound waste. Always ensure your waste factor is set accordingly!
